We Want You to Play Hard. You Need to Be Safe.
Our-Comeback seeks as a primary goal to popularize the Men’s Movement. We want to encourage and assist people to publicly identify as citizens interested in male gender issues.
On the other hand we know that some people who would like to “come out” on male gender issues must remain “in the closet.”
If that is a concern for you, there are at least three things you can do to protect yourself.
When you give Our-Comeback your name, feel free to use an alias you have never used before and will use only on Our-Comeback.
Your email address
We will never give, sell or rent your email address to others without your consent, but there is no way we can guarantee that we or our third-party services can always keep it secure. Think about creating an anonymous email address that you will use on Our-Comeback and only on Our-Comeback, preferably an address you can create without having to give a name or a current email address or a phone number that would link back to you.
We make no endorsement, but you might want to consider the powerfully (though not absolutely perfectly) anonymous email service called ProtonMail. You can create a free account in a couple of minutes at protonmail.com. Tutanota also reviews well in the IT media; tutanota.com. There are other services to consider, too.
Your IP address
Almost all internet services, including all of the ones Our-Comeback uses, routinely log the IP address of everyone who interacts with their platforms. With what some privacy policies call “reasonable effort” bad actors could find out which IP address is, for instance, tied to a certain comment or upload on Our-Comeback (and not just Our-Comeback, but virtually any other platform). A Virtual Private Network (VPN) service can mask your IP address and substitute one that does not (readily) point back to you. Some VPN services are free; some can be had for a few dollars per month.
Shopping and Donating
If you make purchases in the Our-Comeback shop, there is no way around the fact that we will receive your name, email address, purchase info and your phone number. Even if you use PayPal, our shop software requires a phone number. We won’t intend to keep your phone number, but we can’t swear that in the daily rush we might never neglect to secure or delete it. If you donate through our-comeback.com/donate, we will received your name, email address, amount you donated and the last four digits of the credit card you used — even if you choose the anonymous donation option; that only keeps your name from being shown publicly on a donor list. You could use an email address you use only on Our-Comeback, but for your credit card to go through you will need to provide your real name.
Tracking and Analytics
1. Visitor Analytics and Web-Stat
Visitor Analytics and Web-Stat are simple website analytics services that measure the traffic and visitors' general details of our website. Collecting these statistics, we can make our website visitors' experience better (e.g. which pages they visit and when, where they are approximately located, where does a user land first or if they are coming from a specific referral). These services also help us decide where to deploy our advertising and promotional budget.
Basically, as a website owner using Visitor Analytics we are using cookies to collect data about our visitors' device type and screen size, approximate location, browser, OS, IPs, page visits, bounce rate, conversions and popular content on the website. All this data is pseudonymized and Visitor Analytics and Web-Stat will never use the collected data to identify individual users or to match it with additional information on an individual user. Each visitor has control over the placement of Visitor Analytics cookies.Web-Stat does not add cookies to your browser.
Web-Stat collects the IP of visitors in order to geo-locate them approximately (country and city). However, the IP does not identify a natural person. We know that a visitor was on our site, we know what s/he did on the site, we know that s/he was there before, but we don't know 'who' this visitor is: we have no way of identifying him or her personally.
2. Visitor Recordings
Visitor Recordings is an additional feature to Visitor Analytics (described above) in the form of a simple website replay tool that records where our website visitors scrolled to and what they clicked on our website. We can see this information in playbacks and so called heatmaps. Collecting these statistics helps us to make our website more user-friendly and to reproduce and fix technical errors. Web-Stat offers a similar ability to see the pages viewed by anonymous visitors in real time.
Basically, as a website owner using visitor recordings and live views, we are using a snippet of tracking code to collect data about our visitors’ journey on our websites, so which subpages they visit, what they clicked on, where they moved their mouse cursor to and where they scrolled. All this data is pseudonymized and Visitor Analytics and Web-Stat will never use the collected data to identify individual users or to match it with additional information on an individual user.
3. Facebook Pixel
When we run advertisements on Facebook we activate a Facebook pixel on our site to help us determine our ads' effectiveness and to help us make best use of our limited advertising dollars. We do not use the Facebook Pixel for purposes of remarketing -- the practice of following and targeting you with ads on other websites after you have visited Our-Comeback.
4. How to control cookies
You can control and/or delete cookies as you wish by checking your browser settings on each device - for details, see our About Cookies page.
If you play on Our-Comeback you will always face some risk of injury. The question is how safe you can keep yourself, how much risk you’re willing to accept and how much you want to be part of Our-Comeback in the Most Important Game of All. We want you on this team, but the decision is up to you.
If there is anything else you want to know about your privacy, anonymity and confidentiality on Our-Comeback, please send us a question through the Contact form: our-comeback.com/contact.
