Men's Movement Song: Breaking Free: Life Options for Men
Women have lots of options. They talk about "having it all." But life options for men? They fall into three main categories: 1) make money, 2) make money, 3) make money. The men's movement song “Breaking Free” registers severe unhappiness about lack of options for men.
The term "work-life balance" didn't come into common usage until women in large numbers started working full-time. Men had been working full-time for centuries, but the concept of allowing men to balance their jobs with their personal lives had seldom been considered.
“Breaking Free” was written by Richard Haddad, founder in 1977 of Free Men, one of the very first men’s movement organizations, now known as the National Coalition for Men (ncfm.org).
